Brazil is one of the most sought-after kitesurfing destinations in the world. The Northeast concentrates most of the legendary spots — consistent trade winds, warm water, and freshwater lagoons for windless days. Here is what you need to know before choosing.
Cumbuco (Ceará)
Cumbuco is 30km from Fortaleza and is probably the most accessible kite spot in Brazil in terms of infrastructure. Wind blows from June to January, peaking between August and November — 20 to 30 knots sustained, nearly perfect side-offshore.
It is a spot for all levels. The beach has enough stretch for beginners, and the Cumbuco Kite Center concentrates schools and shops. If you are traveling with family or starting out, Cumbuco is the right choice.
Jericoacoara (Ceará)
Jericoacoara (Jeri) is the most famous spot — and for good reasons. Lagoa do Paraíso, Lagoa Azul, and the neighboring Preá beach form a kite complex that attracts riders from around the world.
Best season: August to December. Recommended level: intermediate to advanced for the main beach. Lagoons are great for beginners.
How to Check Conditions Before You Go
All three spots have a page on Get Surf Report with a daily kitesurf score, wind history, and hourly windows. Before booking or hitting the road, check the spot score for your arrival week.
Practical tip: wind below 14 knots in Cumbuco or Jeri is rare but happens. The score helps identify the best windows within your travel window.
